Donald Trump Challenges CNN International Coverage for Spreading ‘Fake News’

President Donald Trump continued his ongoing feud with CNN, signaling frustration that their international team portrayed him in a bad light overseas.

“Fox News is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “The outside world does not see the truth from them!”

In response to Trump’s declaration, CNN deployed their #FactsFirst hashtag and apple emoji on Twitter:

“It’s not CNN’s job to represent the U.S to the world. That’s yours,” CNN’s PR department wrote on Twitter. “Our job is to report the news.”

But in January 2017, CNN’s president Jeff Zucker leveled a threat to President Trump in response to his repeated attacks the network, accusing them of publishing “fake news.”

“The perception of Donald Trump in capitals around the world is shaped, in many ways, by CNN,” he told New York Magazine reporter Gabe Sherman. “Continuing to have an adversarial relationship with that network is a mistake.”

Since Trump’s inauguration, CNN has taken a more hostile tone towards the president and many of his staff.
